Yesterday early evening I heard my letter box rattle so I knew something had been posted.
I went to my outer door and found a nice clean envelope with nothing on it. However it was sealed. I opened it and to my surprise I found an invite to some guy's 60th birthday. There was going to be a party starting around 3.00pm with a live rock band around 7.00pm followed by a Karaoke to around midnight.
I personally will not be going and suppose I will be in the land of nod by the time the party is in full swing.
I don't think the noise will affect me as I am not immediately near the place. Still I suppose it is the thought that counts. Mind you who wants to celebrate a 60th. birthday?
Today I went to see my Sisters and fill up with fuel. I have not filled up since the end of May. Mind you, I had only done 535 miles when I filled up at ASDA there it was 1.36.7p per litre of diesel. The total fuel I put in to fill the tank was almost 33 litres. I worked it out and had got approximately 74 mpg. To me that is great. I do now try to drive a little slower these days.
It was nice to see my Sisters, I took them a few vegetables and fruit including a few grapes. really they would have been better had they stayed on the vine for another fortnight but they were O.K.
Today when I got back I went to see if my plums were ripening. To my horror, I noticed that they were being attacked by wasps so I have picked a lot this afternoon. They are not ready just yet but will ripen in a couple of days indoors.
I didn't realise the damage the wasps could do in a short time. It was a lady called Janice, she worked odd days at the old Post Office where I used to get my pension until the owner sold the business. Anyway one day in August she was full of it, telling me that here and her husband had been on holiday for a fortnight and when they got back, the wasps had eaten all the plums. I thought she was stretching it out a bit, but I now know that she was telling the truth, Mine had only been left a day and the wasps were having a field day. More soon.

Static Caravans
On Monday afternoon I had a phone call from a Representative from the Bulk LPG Company. I originally spoke to him in March and told him that I wished to transfer to them. He asked me to contact him in early April and he would come down to see me. Well I rang up and he was on holiday so I had another guy. He was very nice and we did all the paper work, only to find out that I had inadvertently signed another form which had been printed and a later date was inserted. My fault for not noticing. Well on September 1st I can transfer so last week I rung them up to confirm that I was ready to move to them. The receptionist told me that the man who had originally seen me had moved to a new area, and this man was on holiday.
Well he rang me, I reminded him that the only times I have tried to contact him, he was on holiday. He then told me that he had been on holiday, very near to where I live. He said that he and his wife used to go to Cromer but it was taking ever longer to get there. The last time being 5 hours so they decided to look to where I used to work.
He told me that they had bought a lovely static caravan on this site. I immediately told him it was the most prestigious site in the area. There were restrictions and no lettings allowed but they could let their close relatives have use of the caravan. He readily agreed with me and told me that this is just what they wanted, a quiet place where there were no undesirables at all.
How did I know about this? Well it must have been in the early 70s when this couple started to come in to our place every Saturday and Sunday during the season. After the first season we , well my Mother really started to talk to them. They were a very nice couple. It turned out that the Husband worked on British Steel as a Personnel Officer. He was a well spoken man, his wife was very nice too but she was more down to earth with a Yorkshire accent. One day my Mother asked them if they had a property in town. He told her that they had bought a static caravan just out of town. They bought it for 2 reasons. The first was it was not cheap to stay there so it kept the undesirables away and secondly, the site was open from March1st. and closed on 31st October. Generally though it closed on the Sunday nearest 31st October. The largest site used to open 1 week before Easter and close the end of September. Most other sites used to open the Saturday nearest 15th. March and close the 15th. October. It must be remembered that this was the early 70s.
They came to see us every week-end until I guess around 1986. He was cutting the little piece of lawn round his caravan when he told his wife he didn't feel too good. He thought it was indigestion. Unfortunately it was a heart attack.
When he died, there was a full page all about him. I didn't know that he was a councillor and among other things he was a J.P. All his wife would say about him when he was living was, she hardly ever saw him as he had to attend so many meetings and functions. She informed us that she was not interested in going to functions. Anyway, that is how I came to know just how exclusive this site is.
The representative will be calling me to make an appointment to sign the relevant documents, no doubt he will tell me all about the caravan site. More soon.

Few observations
When I was at the Kiosk, there were one or two things that happened that were out of the ordinary.
The first one I can remember was on a fine sunny day I think in either May or June several Customs and Excice men came up. They were in uniform and came in for a drink. Most had coke, anyway one of them stayed at the counter so I asked him what he was doing up here. Expecting him to say that they were waiting for some project. This was not the case. He told me that they had come to the Car Park which incidentally was on the sea front. They had come to see if there was any smuggling of goods happening. At first I thought he was joking, but he was deadly serious. He told me that small boats came ashore on the beaches such as we have in Lincolnshire. I didn't see them again so I guess that it was a wasted journey.
Another time, there was a Police car, well not a marked car ut the Police were in uniform. There would be 3 of them and came up to the Car Park on a Friday. Well this went on for several weeks and as they always came in for a cup of tea, I eventually asked them what they were doing. I must admit, that one guy came everytime nad often had two different guys. He told me that they were based at Lincoln and they were on Advanced Driving. He told me that he was the instructor. He also told me that they would use the same route for about 4 months and then they would alter the route. This must have happened about 1 month later, for that was the last I saw of them.
The third unusual happening was the Canoe Club. It must be remembered that we are a seaside place. I was quite surprised to see Canoes. The Car Park supervisor was informed and he told me. There was about 40 vehicles that would be on the Car Park over a week-end. It turned out that the Canoe Club was based, I think in the Northampton area. As it happened, there had been little rain during the preceding 2 years and the rivers were running low. So they decided to come to the seaside. This was I guess in April. I know it was cold. All the Canoeists had wet suits on and there was a wide range of ages. The younger ones wanted drinking chocolate but the hardier older ones just had tea. They certainly enjoyed the stay, so much that the following year, they came again. Mind you, I think this time the sea was a little rougher and it was a lot colder. I never saw them again.
Now to something different. Yesterday I went for my hair cut. There were a few in and in the chair was a young lad I guess 10 or 11. He was in the chair for ages and had I think they are called lines on the side. It looked O K. The man who followed me in turned to me and asked if I was going to have anything like that. I reminded him that we would not be sitting in a chair like that. There would be a stool which spun round to either lift or lower the seat. He laughed and told me that also the only haircut was a short back and sides. I told him that this is what I ask for, adding that I also ask for a bit off the top. He turned to me showing his near bald top and told me he asks for a number 4.
The barber is doing much better now, I am pleased to say. His opening times were shown and now he closes on a Wednesday also Sundays too. He is also closing for a week or more from the 22nd. August till the 30th. August. Mind you for us pensioners it is only £4.00p. £5.50 for normal adults, however it is £5.50 for all on a Saturday. More soon.
P. S. M. You are correct with charity shops. Will be in touch.

Stock Market
Before I get on to the financial state of the world. I had a comment from M.
I must say it is nice to get comments. He asked, or suggested that perhaps I could give veg or fruit to the Doctor. He also suggested, tongue in cheek, I could sell spare veg.
I can not remember if I mentioned it but each year, I give a Nurse some tomato plants that I grow. Well this year they I gave them to the receptionist to give to the Nurse. Unfortunately she went off duty. The Lady Doctor who is the senior partner saw them, asked the replacement receptionist and asked whose they were. As the receptionist didn't know, she took them.
Now over the years I have taken asparagus to my Consultant. He certainly appreciated them. This year though they were early and as I was not there until the end of June he didn't get any.
Now to the state of the financial climate. I am not bothered as to how my shares are doing as I have no intention of selling them but it does affect everybody. The main cause of worry is for the pension plans as they all have a large portfolio in Stocks and Shares. Therefore as the value of shares has gone down, the size of their pot has also diminished.
To me, I personally think we are in for a protracted slowdown and for several years a reduction in take home pay of workers. This together with the general increase of everyday expenses. Times will be a little tough.
It is sad that the younger generation has never had to economise so will be hit hardest. I was talking to the neighbour and we both agreed that almost everyone of the younger generastion would laugh if you asked them if they saved buttons off shirts and other garments, saved string and if you get any brown paper this was saved also.
Mind you, this is not why I grow my own vegetables although I obviously save a lot of money growing my own. More soon.

Medication arrived
On Tuesday I posted my repeat prescription in the local Medical Centre fully expecting them to be delivered yesterday. No such luck. It is annoying because it meant that I stayed in all day yesterday.
This morning I went down to my local dispensary to see if they had sent my prescription off, they assured me that this was so.
Well I had to go out on an errand and did not get back until some time after 11.15am. No sooner had I arrived the young man who delivers my medication arrived too. He was pleased to see me. He wanted to know what had happened in the preceding 2 months. I told him that my medication had changed and different tablet was prescribed. I told the Nurse in dispensary that I had just ordered a repeat prescription. She told me that she would adjust it and that if I called the next day I would have the new medication together with all of the others. I said that was fine.
The next month I put my repeat in and waited for the delivery. In their wisdom the staff at the local dispensary thought I would pick up my prescriptions from now on. I requested them to make sure that they would be delivered.
Well yesterday no delivery so off I went to check the local dispensary to make sure that my request was done. They informed me that this was so.
The delivery lad was full of apology saying that his Senior delivery man was on holiday and was told that there was no more to deliver on Wednesday. Then late Wednesday he was told there were another 50 to be delivered. He told me that he didn't notice that one was mine otherwise he would have left most to come out to deliver to me.
He told me that he had made enquiries as to what had happened to me, he asked his supervisor, nobody knew. he was pleased to see me again.
Mind you, it has not been all sweetness and light for him. The last time he came to see me, he told me that he hoped to be back in his home by the following month. He is not back in his own home yet. His wife is 7 months pregnant so I hope that he manages to get moved in soon. They are living with her parents. Need I say more.
Well we had a few minutes talk and I told him that I had some goodies for him and his wife. I gave him, runner beans, a cabbage, some tomatoes a couple of apples and a bunch of grapes. I told him they were not quite ready but he had a taste and said they were nice so he has the first bunch of grapes this year. I think within a couple of weeks there will be many more ready. More soon.

ankles
I can't remember if I mentioned this before but when I went to have my Podiatry tests, one of the last things the Nurse told me was that my ankles were nice and thin. She told me that generally as one got older, the ankles thickened.
I told her that when I was in Hospital the last time, I guess that was about 4 years ago, this Lady came everyday to visit her Husband. He was 90 years old, mind you I think she was at least 10 years younger than that. He was a retired Policeman. He was the local bobby in a town nearby. To be honest, he was not well at all. He had bed sores and was gradually getting worse. His wife would bring him in special food every day. Sometimes he would be sleeping. I was on the bed opposite. She used to come over to me and at first she told me that my ankles were the best ankles she had ever seen. It must be remembered that I had not been walking much for a couple of weeks so my legs were just about acceptable and my ankles would be at their best. She would come over every day and feel my ankles. It didn't bother me at all so I let her do it. After about a week I was suddenly moved to another ward so I never saw her again.
The Nurse was bemused as to why anybody would want to touch ankles. I just thought that different people have different fetishes.
I had a letter a couple of days ago informing me that I have an appointment for my Retinopathy Screening. I must say they do keep a close eye on me. It does mean though that I will have to make arrangements to have transport as I will not be allowed to drive to and from the Medical Centre, which is about 8 miles away. More soon.

Risk
I have thought long and hard about talking about this incident.
Anyone who has read my blog will know of a guy who I was friendly with who was a bit of a lad. Not only with women but with the car and the speed he went.
As I told you, he just took a liking to me. This incident is completely true.
I must put it into context. The guy who it concerns worked on the Railway and was a bit rough. To be honest, nearly all of them were. It was me who was bought up a quiet reserved person. Mind you, I soon got into bad habits. Much to my enjoyment.
Well this guy called Ken. He had his teeth out and we all called him Fang. He was a good bit older than most of us.
One day, he was shagging this lass behind the local cinema and he collapsed. He was taken to the hospital and he told us that the Doctor told him to take it easy regarding sex. He was having too much. This was before he was married.
Well I went into the Army for my National Service. When I came out after 2 years, Ken had left the Railway.
As I got to know E better he loved to come out with me occasionally just for a good night out and a sing song.
Well this particular night, he told me that he had to go to the local Working Mans Club as he was on the Committee.
It was while he was there that this other colleague came over to hm. He asked him if he had told me of the lap dog.
Well E started to laugh and said he would tell the story.
He said that Ken, who was now married and had 2 children quickly and the third was approaching had a dog. He had trained it. E called it a lap dog. I looked at him a little old fashioned and he started to laugh. He explained that the dog had been taught to lick the glans of the penis. Well I satrted to laugh loudly. By the way there was an artist on the stage and believe it or not. He was singing to the tune of Zip ah de doo dah. The words were zip up your doo dar put it away. Pleas forgive spelling mistakes.
Well Eric went on to tell me more. The local Parson had called to see Ken's wife about the coming birth. He asked if he could use the tiolet. She obviously told him yes. The toilets were all outside in those days. Well off he went to the toilet. The dog dived in the toilet. Heaven knows what happened but the Parson hurriedly came out of the toilet and went back into the house. He told her that there was something up with that dog. The tears were streaming down my face. The Club Secretary came over to us and asked us if we could please keep the noise down.
He then told me that Ken's wife played hell with him when he got home. Asked him what was happening. Eventually Ken told his wife. She told him that either the dog was put down or she went. The dog was put down. Heaven knows what the Parson thought of the episode.
I know you may find it hard to believe, but I can assure you that the story I was told I do believe it to be true. There were some funny goings on in those days. Mind you, it is more drugs these days. I don't know which is the best. Ken had his mates who found excitement with the dog. I still find it hard to believe after 50 or more years.
Footnote. Ken himself was a very pleasant well liked guy. You could not help but like him. He seemed to be the one who was a bit of a loser when it came to life. More soon.
