Yesterday it rained all day and at times very heavy rain. This morning I saw the Postman and he told me that he measured the rain gauge and in millimeters it measured just under 40. According to mine, here we had almost 2" of rain.
It reminds me of my late Mother after a long dry spell which we have had here she would say " It has forgotten how to rain, unfortunately when it remembers how to rain it forgets ho to stop." This seems to be true for although today has been sunny at times tomorrow is forecast to be dull and wet again.
I made the most of the weather this morning and planted out some plants that I have been waiting to plant out for some time. Whilst I was in the garden I heard a Cuckoo, a most unusual sound these days. When we were young many years ago in April and May you could hear the sound of a Cuckoo very regular but to see them wasn't easy. They are a dull looking bird and much larger than say a blackbird. This Cuckoo was travelling so I heard it singing for about a minute.
My mate called yesterday and we emptied, well almost emptied my very large water butt. With all the rain we have had yesterday it is just over half full and if the forecast is correct, I expect to see the gauge well over 3/4 full. Let us hope that we have cleaned the butt sufficiently.
On Monday I am going to a Seamstress, for a first consultation about making a pair of bib and brace. I know I can get them anywhere but not the style that British Railway bib and brace are. As I am now wearing the last set which I was given in the 1960s. I left in 1964, so that they are getting a little past their best. The lady lives a few miles away and she generally makes Wedding Dresses so it will not be cheap. Let us hope she can do the goods to my satisfaction. Of course I will keep everyone who bothers to read this blog informed. More soon.

Extra
I have been meaning to mention this for a while but as I get older I forget much more often.
It will soon be time to take cuttings, this is a cheap way of propagating. It was my Italian Pal that told me this and he gave me some rose tree cuttings. He had noticed the neighbour had cut some of his roses down and left the cuttings. My Pal gathered some up and stuck them in some compost. All that he put in the compost grew and were true to form. In other words they wer just the same as the parent plant. I have tried it and found it was true. So anyone reading this blog and wishes to expand their rose bed then you now know just what to do.
I must say don't take very young cuttings but more nature cuttings, I can guarantee they will root. It will certainly save many pounds as the Garden Centres charge a large amount for young Rose bushes. More, a little later than tomorrow.

I went out to place my repeat prescriptions in at my local Surgery what surprised me most was how warm it was outside. By the way I indicated whether I was able to put my repeat prescriptions in the box but was given the thumbs up. Now we wait for the arrival of my medication.
On Sunday the lad from next door came round, we had a shower on Saturday but nothing to shout about. He wanted to see just how his vegetables were progressing, in act one of his tomatoes looks better than mine. I noticed the cabbage we had set looked good his onion sets were beginning to grow, his early potatoes ars looking good too as normal his shallots look fine. He does have about a dozen fruitless on his pear tree but I have warned him that quite a few may drop off and that the most I have ever had from the young tree was 4. Last year it flowered but looked as if it would die but recovered in the summer months. This year it looks quite well and hopefully next year he will have lots of pears on his tree.
No sooner had I returned home when the doorbell rang, it was the lad, he came to see if I wished anything as he was going swimming at 11.00.am. in I think Skegness. He also told me that tomorrow(Wednesday)he would not be going to work as the carers were taking both of the boarders out for the day but he didn't know where they were going.
We went up to the orchard part, it sounds like I have a large garden but it is not so. It has been gravelled over but some weeds seem to find their way to grow. I bet we picked up well over 100 small weeds, this primarily is that last night we did have a little more rain, during the day it was just very light rain. This has made the weeds shoot up so I will be on my toes looking for weeds. Probably not tomorrow as the forecast is for rain turning heavy as the day progresses. If the forecast is like today it will be correct. It said that rain would gradually spread to this area this afternoon and this is so as it is beginning to rain quite steadily. Mind you we really do need it as the ground up to 3" deep is very dry, once you get well into the ground it is still moist.
My mate will be here tomorrow so I will be busy getting ready for him in the morning so with the forecast, no weeding tomorrow.
Finally the lad told me he would probably go to visit his Parents in Lincoln on Saturday but he said he would not bother if the weather forecast was poor. By the looks he might just make it as the forecast for the week end is for sunny periods and showers. More soon.

Online shopping
On Saturday I received through the Post a circular offering me clothes. As I wished to buy some lightweight summer Polo shirts I look ed at what they had to offer. They were not cheap and it was their own brand so I decided to go Online to check to see if there were any offers.
To be honest I stumbled on Sports Direct. There they had an offer which suggested they were selling at a large discount as I presume they wanted to get new stock in.
I looked at the short sleeved lightweight Polo shirts. The brand was Slazenger so it was a well named brand. What surprised me most of all was the range of colours they had. Anyway I decided to buy 4 shirts the colours are Deep purple. sky blue. teal and burgundy, all in a medium size.
I decided to pay by Pay Pal and immediately received an e-mail from them stating that a request had been made for payment, not that I pay before, I only pay after I have received the goods.
I then had an e-mail from Sports Direct thanking me for purchasing the goods however when I looked further down it stated that this didn't mean a contract had been made as they would check to see if they had the goods I required was available.
On Sunday I was contacted by Sports Direct informing me that the good were in the warehouse and that they would contact me once the goods were in transit.
Tuesday morning I went to get my State Pension and do a little shopping, I guess I got back about 9.30.am. No sooner had I arrived home the door bell rang it was Hermes the delivery people. I remarked how quick it had been. No sooner had I got back in the home when the phone rang, it was a telephone sms message informing me that the goods had been delivered to the Courier and delivery would be that day.
I then turned on my computer and saw I had 3 messages from Sports Direct. The first was to inform me that the goods was in transit. This was timed at 9.05.am.
The second message was that the goods had been delivered to the Courier.
The third message was to inform me that the goods had been delivered.
To be honest I have never had such service from any Online sales and I could not fault the service at all. With the 4 shirts and postage the total cost was £22 all but a penny the quality of the shirts is good and I am well satisfied with the products. More soon.

Winter?
The weather here this last week or so has been very windy very cold and very cloudy. It has reminded me of when I was in Business many years ago.
In fact it was 1975. The warmest Summer we have had in ages but it didn't start off like that. I had a cafe/restaurant and it was Spring Bank Holiday. This family had been to Mablethorpe for several years and always had their dinner(lunch to the posh folks) the family consisted of Mum and Dad a young lad aged about 14 who was mentally disturbed and the Mother's Mother. She would be in her late 60s the Family grown ups would be around 40 years of age.
It was the Father of the Boy who was the only one who could controll him. According to my late Father the lad was in a secure home but they allowed the parents to take him on holiday. To be honest he seemed to be no trouble at all. They always came for their meal early so that they could get away for we got busy with the lunchtime rush.
We found out that they stayed in a Holiday Complex so not in a caravan but a Chalet.
Well this year it was just like it is now, bitter cold and the Grandmother told my Father that the only heating was a small electric heating element just above the entrance door. She told my Father that if it didn't warm up she was going back home as it was just too cold.
believe it or not, they had snow in early June in Derbyshire where there was a First Class Cricket Match on. I think this was on Tuesday but by Friday it had warmed up very nicely.
The Family was booked in for 2 weeks as normal but on the second week with the temperature rising fast the Grandmother told me Father that it was just too hot for her and she couldn't believe that a few days earlier she was in the Arctic conditions.
They did stick it out for the rest of the week and seemed to be happy with the weather too.
They came for a few years. I didn't mention this before but the Mother of the lad was very large, what you would certainly call very obese but the last time thy all came we didn't recognise the Mother, she was obviously not well at all, I guess she had lost well over 12 stone in weight and looked dreadful although we treated her as if nothing had changed although she had little energy but she didn't want to spoil the rest of them enjoying their holiday.
Unfortunately we never saw then again but we guessed that the Mother had subsequently passed away.
Let us hope that this year will be on the same sort of track which means it will be a very warm dry Summer. Mind you I hope we get some rain for I am waiting to plant out a lot of bedding plants. I did plant some broccoli plants out but they succomed to the dry, cold windy weather. I have sown more seeds. More soon.

Windy washing day
Today I decided to change my bed linen including my throwover, not a sensible thing to do as the winds over these last few days have been very strong, but with the sun putting in an appearance for the first time in a few days I went for it.
With the new washing machine the throwover with the sheets, pillowcases and pyjamas the washer made light work of it.
With the winds being so strong I expected them to dry well, unfortunately when I looked out I could see that some of the washing had been blown off the line. With the weather being so dry at least the sheets didn't pick up any soil or dirt at all.
This morning with the sun shining I looked over at the lad's garden. I had given him a small piece of netting and noticed he had tried to protect some of his garden so with that in mind I went and found another roll of netting for him.
As he finishes work early on a Monday and Thursday I looked out for him soon after 2.45.pm. I explained to him that as I hadn't much time I would go with him right away to reset some of the onion sets then cover them up with the netting. He agreed so we went round to his place, I picked up several bricks and told him to get some water so that we could water where the onion sets would be rest so as to give them some sort of a start. It took about 20 minutes in all and of course he had to show his tomatoes which look nice.
The carer had washing hanging out on the line but I noticed that 3 items had blown off the line but as it is covered in grass they would do no harm at all. I thought it was not just me that had been caught out with the very strong winds.
heaven alone knows when we will get some appreciable rain. I have plenty of plants ready to be planted out but my garden is like concrete so if we don't get rain in the next 2 weeks I fear most of my plants in pots will not be able to be transferred into the garden. More soon.

Very Late
I am a little late posting this but my Best pal called with his Wife and I gave him a demonstratio with the Phillips Air Fryer and how to easy clean it after cooking the chips. It is thanks to my mate that I have one because he told me all about it then found a second hand one and to be honest although I don't use it much it is a great thing to have. In fact my Best Pal's Wife told me they only used oven chips but she didn't enjoy them at all but ate these chips with a great deal of joy.
As you can see I dug up a couple of roots of New potatoes up on Saturday. The lad came to help me with the gutter guards and although he did next to nothing he was a good help holding the mesh for me while I fitted it in the gutter. With the gutter guards came some fixing pins but they were far too long to use. I was satisfied at how the mesh fitted anyway.
Now to the potatoes. I had promised the lad a taste of new potatoes so dug up a couple of roots out of my greenhouse. I set them in the second week of January and although they had grown tall I didn't expect many on them so I was surprised at the amount of potatoes I had. Well over 2.1/2 lbs. To convert it well over a kilo. In fact it did us on Saturday with the lad having plenty for he loves potatoes and I have just finished them today having eating them each day since Saturday. By the way they scraped very very easy it was a joy to scrape them.
The lad called to see my Pal and his Wife as he hadn't seen them for several months. He said he had been to Skegness to go to swimming he loves swimming he said the water was not too warm but he enjoyed it anyway.
By the time my Pal and his Wife and eaten the chips I made them it was well past their time to go and I was late having my teatime meal. All the same it was nice to see them once more. I hadn't seen his Wife this year so far. I gave her a variegated everlasting wallflower a cutting that I took earlier this year. By the way she gave me a couple a few years ago but one died and I just managed to save a cutting of the other one which died soon after. They are easy to take cuttings though and she was pleased with the healthy flowering plant I gave her.
I canned at Lidl this morning and as I had planned it I went to check to see if the dental Surgeon who was rude to me had retired for I expected him to carry on working. The receptionist informed me that he was still working and would be staying on. With tat I asked her to cancel my appointment with him. She was quite taken aback and asked if there was something wrong. I told her he had been rude to me and dismissive of my concerns as to my lower dentures and told me there was nothing wrong with them and had to get used to them. She was apologetic and suggested that I see another dental Surgeon but told me it would not be the same day as the original date for a routine inspection. I told her that this was fine so she booked me in for the middle of June so I will wait and see what this Dental Surgeon has to say about my lower dentures. More soon.
