I went to the bank this morning and in front of me was an old lady with a walking frame. Not what one knows as a zimmer frame but one with wheels to help, I presume with balance. Something that I am beginning to have myself. Balancing problems, not every day but sometimes. All they say is it's your age. Some comfort.
Anyway, she eventually went to the next free teller. I could not help but hear a few comments and one was that she was on holiday in Skegness. The teller remarked that she hoped she was not on that funfair ride that had many visitors stuck. The lady did not understand anything she said. Quite understandable to me because those funfair rides are mainly for the younger people. All the lady told her was that she had stayed in her hotel yesterday as there were too many people about.
It is funny as it bought to my mind a couple of incidents regarding my Father and as I stood tittering at the tellers remarks it bought back these two incidents.
The first occurred well over 50 years ago. My Mother was in hospital and my Father decided he would have some cheese. The cheese, as had other perishable goods had just started to be vacuum packed. Anyway I could hear my Father struggling and cursing so I went to see what he was doing. I was just in time to see him trying to stick a knife into the plastic covering and giving up, opening the fridge door saw me and said. "They don't mean you having the bloody stuff". I laughed and took the cheese, got a pair of scissors and snipped the end off. With that my Father laughed and thanked me. Then he had his cheese.
The other incident happened in the very early 1970s.
I had a dog and my Father said he was going to see the man in the Pet Shop. Yes that is what it was called. It wasn't a shop really, it was a wooden sort of shack with just a little alcove where he made some of his remedies up.
Off he went and when the door opened, there was a catch that rung a bell. In those days many shopkeepers had this sort of thing. It just told them that someone had entered the shop.
Well my Father entered the shop, there was one woman at the counter and he thought she said to him "Good morning" so he naturally replied. About 30 seconds later the same came again. My father answered once more thinking that perhaps she was a little deaf and had not heard him the first time. When this "Good morning" was uttered for a third time, he said to us he thought "Sod her I'm not wasting my time talking to her anymore". With that the owner came from his alcove, gave the woman some pet food medicine and told her the instructions were on the label. The woman paid, gave my Father a very funny look and left. Of course the bell rang as she opened the door and a voice rang out "Good morning". My father looked a little puzzled and the shop owner told him it was his pet Minah bird.
He came home and we were in fits of laughter when he told us. He was not as he thought he was made to look stupid not realising that it was a bird saying good morning.
It is funny how some things stick in ones mind. I still smile when I think of him in that shack talking to that woman thinking it was her that was talking. By the way I do believe that the Pet Shop is still going strong. Not in the shack but in a brick built property. More soon.

Holiday over
Yes, the Bank Holiday is over and also I think the summer.
I think weather wise we have been fortunate regarding rain here. Mind you, on Friday it rained all day, well except for about 30 minutes. My garden has had plenty of rain, all of my water butts are full . On Saturday, after all the rain, I stupidly decided to dig up the potatoes. Eel worms were a plenty and mud stuck to the potatoes so you can guess the ground is wet.
On Saturday I also decided to pick my apples. It is rather early but I noticed a few had fallen so I did the lift test. That is to hold an apple and gradually lift them, if they come off easy then they are ready to be lifted. I picked well over 200. They were still a little wet so I laid them out in the sitting room to dry. Quite a lot were damaged but I still managed to salvage, I think over 150. I say I think because I am hoping they will keep over the winter.
Now a reply to M. about the paint.
The paint gun was used with a cartridge and it was that where the paint came from. One of the users stated that once the cartridge was open, it must be used on that day. Mind you, it must have been a disaster because it seems to have been withdrawn. I think M. is right when stating that brushes are the thing. One of the reviewers stated this and said he was happy with his painting with the brush.
Finally, we complain about the weather here but I do think about those on the East Coast of America. The hurricane which was downgraded to a tropical storm, did countless millions of $ damage ans the pictures that were shown on T.V.were dreadful. We have a lot to be thankful for living over here in England. More soon.

Dear oh dear
I just can't believe it but my neighbour, this afternoon called me and gave me some print outs of the supposed Hammerrite paint.
It turns out to bea Hammerite Metalmaster Gun.
What he said next surprised me. First he gave me the sheets and immediately I noticed that it was a gun. He confirmed that it was and told me that you had to buy a cartridge. Now comes the interesting part. He told me that you could not buy the cartridges as they no longer produced them. He did tell me that he had printed some customer reviews.
They certainly were of great value to me.
First guy wrote of the difficulties getting the thing to work. He sent the first one back only to find the replacement was almost as bad. His comments were Useless.
The second wrote something like,
The concept of electrostatically charged paint sounded good in practice it was a total and abject failure. DON'T BUY THIS.
No wonder they discontinued the product
This guys final comment was.
"If you want a better job offence painting done, get a bunch of blindfolded chimpanzees drunk, then get them to dip their faeces in paint before throwing it vaguely across the road.
So that is the last I will look for Hammerite special paint.
I will stick to the normal brush type.
I haven't told my mate yet. I expect him to tell me it was what he expected. More soon.

What a performance
As promised, these are some of the wasps I have caught over the last few weeks. I guess I have had to empty 4 jars at least every other day as they have been full.
I think I told you that George the eldest man told me that there was a wasps nest in the field. I mentioned it to one of the younger men, well today he showed me some powder that he was going to put down the wasps nest. It said on the carton that it would kill and destroy wasps nests. It was supplied by Rentokil, so let us hoe that cures the wasp problem.
I had to go to have my eyes photographed today and my mate was very late in arriving. I guessed that the car that he uses was being repaired. I was correct, so it meant that we could go in his car to the Medical Centre. It was well organised and the whole examination took less than 25 minutes. This included a twenty minute wait for the drops to work. They dilate the pupils so that a good photo can be taken. I will know the results in about 4 weeks.
When my mate arrived, he first told me that nobody had heard of Mammerite Magnetic. He told me that e had been to the local DIY shops and then to the builders merchants. Each said the same, so he decided to go online and use google as a search engine. To his surprise, he found my blog. I told him that I had mentioned it in passing. He told me that google would pick it up as there was no news regarding the paint.
Well I asked the other younger guy and he told me he would mention it to him. Later he told me that he was going online to find out. I am sure there is not a paint that does that. If there is, I wonder why no DIY store or builders merchants have not heard of it.
The only other way is to get a 500gm of Hammerite paint and just paint it by normal brush. I wonder if there is something like that. He is a property manager and does all repairs and improvements. I will keep all informed. More soon.

greengages
This is a very short blog. My best pal called today so I have not much time.
Yesterday, while my neighbour was freeing the gates the other neighbour was cutting the hedge, He had steel capped boots on so he put his foot under the gate while the man hit the parts that were stuck.
After freeing them he told me that his fruit trees were being pestered by wasps and one plum tree was bearing green fruits. I suggested that they would be greengages so all of us went to his place. He has a huge garden and 2 plum trees some 50 yards away. When we got close I told him that they were greengages, I took one off and ate it. To be honest they are beautiful. I gave one to the man from next door and told the neighbour whose garden it was to try one. He was astounded. He told me he didn't realise that they were firstly ready and secondly how nice they were. I then told him to pick them as the wasps were getting at them.
After looking at the chickens we left but later I saw his partner, I asked her if she had tasted the greengages. She told me that she had no idea as to what tree it was, they had as they thought bought 2 plum tree. She then asked me if I would like some. I told her that would be nice and a dozen would be fine. They are really nice. More soon.

gates
Well the other day a guy called to confirm my move to another LPG supplier. He was very nice but his last remark was. "Get those gates sorted they spoil the look of your property". I must admit that they look bad. To be candid, I have never had those gates closed. They are made of wrought iron so are rusty alright. I did tell him that they were rusted and would not move.
Well this morning I saw George my neighbour. He is a semi retired builder. I asked him if he had anything to help with releasing my gates I had tried WD40 but the rust was too bad. My friend had also tried and told me that they were damaged beyond repair. George told me he would send someone round.
True to his word the youngish man came round with a hammer and some sort of releasing agent. He looked at the gates and told me that it was not going to be easy as they had been bent, I guess my mate had hit them hard with some instrument and had bent them. He persevered and to my surprise managed to get one free. He told me that he would probably have to use heat on the other one. He tried it for one last time and to my amazement it suddenly became free. So now I have gates that work. I told him that I will use Hammerite and he then told me to use Hammerite magnetic. This I think is a spray and it sticks to the other side and he told me that there was no need to then paint the other side as it would be already done. I have rung my mate and he will look for some of this paint. He is here on Wednesday so I will keep you informed as to what will happen.
I had a bit of a shock this afternoon. I had to go for a routine inspection of my mouth at the local dental practice. All was O.K and I went to the receptionist to see if there was anything to pay. She informed me that I did not pay for my last visit in April so with this visit it was £17 for this and £17 for the last visit. I queried the cost and it suddenly came to me. I told her that I had paid I think £199 for the dentures and had trouble with them. I went back to have them readjusted and she then told me she remembered. and would report this to the Practice Manager to see what is going to happen. If I am charged, I will be inclined to threaten to take legal action as the dentures were not fit for purpose and see what will happen.
I have taken a few photos of the wasps in my jars. Don't know what they look like but if they are O.K. then I will post them on my blog. More soon.

Rain a plenty
It is funny but here at the seaside we have had lots and lots of heavy showers. Not those that last a couple of minutes but the ones that last for about 30 minutes with very heavy rain.
I think I mentioned it but when I went to Grantham my Brother-in Law told me that they had only a few showers. I noticed it when he was digging up some of the front lawn so his wife could get her car on the driveway. The ground was bone dry. I told him it would not be possible to do that here. I dug a few potatoes up and they were covered in mud.
Today I gave the new neighbours a few more runner beans. I then told him that I would give them a few plums but they must half them to see if there was any plum moth grubs in them. To be candid, I have seen very few in the later plums I have gathered. I also gave them, with my other neighbour a few grapes. He told me that they were having a barbecue tomorrow and I was welcome to join them. He also told me that they were having visitors from the London area later today and were staying for a holiday. I then saw that there were lots of wasps around his bucket. It was full of kitchen waste . He told me that there was a wasps nest up in the field. I told him to contact the council and inform them that there was a wasps nest. Whether he will, I don't know. He should because as I have told you, both he and his wife have been stung.
Just for M. Tomorrow is not looking too promising weatherwise. So perhaps the barbecue will be put on hold. More soon.
