Bank Holiday weather

Sunday and Bank Holiday began overcast with strong to gale force Northerly winds but it did brighten up somewhat and we saw fleeting glimpses of sun but it was rather cold. I wouldn't have thought many would be on the beach.
Yesterday the forecast was dire and sure enough it proved to be correct. It started with a light drizzle around 8.30 am. That didn't last too long for it gradually started to rain steady and the gale force Northerly winds made it feel cold, mind you it was. I checked the temperature gauge and found the maximum it got to was less than 13c. Before lunchtime the heavens opened up and we had torrential rain for about 30 minutes, it then turned to steady rain. This pattern went on for the rest of the day. When it steadied later I checked the water gauge and as you can see it read about 1 and 1/3 of an inch. This morning I checked again as it was fine, this being around 8.00.am. It now read just 2". No wonder my garden and paths are completely under water as you can see.
We have had several heavy showers again and I have been to check the gauge having emptied it earlier. I now notice we have had about a 1/3 of an inch today.
The nearest I can think of this weather is the Coronation of the Queen in 1953. It was just as cold but fortunately the wind was nowhere near as strong as this has been.
To cap it all, the forecast for the Coast the weather forecast for the coming days is once more no sun, strong to gale force winds gradually abating with rain or showers at times gradually getting a little drier and the temperature gradually rising. Something to look forward to. More soon.
